Dave

Reasons why I love Dave, currently:

1.  He went on Macey's zoo field trip last minute because they needed more parent volunteers.  He had to take almost the whole day off of work AND ride the bus (I would rather die).  AND he took pictures for me since I am a yearbook photographer and needed some.

2.  One day when he was driving down to San Jose I mentioned that I wondered if he would be near this shoe store that we don't have up here because I needed some shoes returned.  Well, he took them with him and returned them for me and bought me some new boots that he knew I had been eyeing- how nice is that?!

3.  He adjusted Mack's yoda costume to fit his head better.

4.  Carved Macks pumpkin with him ( I really hate carving pumpkins- like it hurts me).

5.  Hung a new collage for me in our family room- that is a hard job involving measuring which I cannot do.

6.  Sewed me up a Princess Leah costume from an old sheet when I had nothing to wear to the Halloween party.  It took him maybe 20 minutes.

6.  Goes to work everyday even though he'd much rather stay home.  This is huge.  I am thankful he works so hard for us.  Work has been stressful lately because he needs to hire a manager but until he does he has been doing everything himself (of course his secretary helps some too).  He has been so so busy and when he gets home I know he'd love to crash on the couch for awhile.  But instead he puts on a smile (well I do know his smile comes naturally- he doesn't have to try that hard to be happy) and spends time with the kids, helps me around the house and with errands and activities, and puts time in all the way till we crawl into bed exhausted.  We've hit those crazy busy exhausted years and I'm glad he's around to do them with me.  I hope we survive so we can enjoy our empty nest years together.

MY BOYS

The men in my life....

Mack is going through a boy phase.  He loves his big brother and follows him around doing what he does.  He loves fight Logan with Mashoonga's and wrestle him and play legos with him.

He loves his daddy too and has already figured out that Dave's the funny one.  This morning Mack was crying because I took the ipad away (my shower babysitter).  He was crying and crying and finally came up to me and said, "I want daddy."  He's never really asked for Dave before and it was super sweet.  So we face-timed Dave, and Mack laughed at everything Dave did and was cheered up.  I'm glad he had such a good daddy to turn to when life gets hard.

Love Week- the end

I always drop the ball at the end of things.  I think it's because I'm not obsessive enough.  Anyway, love week was fun.  Valentines Day was fun.  I had a lot of fun making these Valentines of Mack:

But I just keep thinking about something that happened this week.  It's the beginning of tax season and Dave is starting to be busy.  I always start of energetic and ready to do things on my own and handle it all for two months (it's only two months!)

Well, my back hurt really bad this week- I injured it somehow.  And I hate grocery shopping more than any other mom job.  And it was 8pm one night before I was able to get the kids settled and get out the door for some much needed groceries.  I was exhausted.  Nighttime is hard for me. Dave hadn't been home yet.  My back hurt and I called him from the car complaining and grumpy.  He said, "where are you going right now?"  I said, "grocery shopping."  And he did this big long sigh..... like 'why are you grocery shopping late at night when you hate it so much and your back hurts and you should have called me I would have done it'.

Anyway, we got off the phone and 10 minutes later as I'm depressingly pushing my cart down the aisle and reaching up to get something off a shelf I hear, "do you need help with that Miss?" and I turn around and it's him.  He pushed my cart around for me and we finished the job together. It was the best love gift ever and that's how I know he loves me.  Not because he brings me flowers and chocolates (even though he does) but because he's there for me.  He knows me.  He wants to be with me and help me.  And he shows me that so much and I'm really thankful.  I love you Dave.

Two More Reasons Why I Love Dave

He's just the best.

1.  We have been spending too much money lately.  Mainly because we're moving and it's the end of the year, and we have very little time so I haven't been meal planning as well, we've eaten out too much etc. etc.  Then it was our anniversary and we both got a fitbit just for fun.
Well, then I really needed some white skinnies because I just really needed them!  On our anniversary we went shopping for a few minutes and I found some!!  We got them and a couple of other items.  On the way home I was feeling guilty and said to Dave, "so what are you thoughts on how we've been spending so much money and not being responsible and we're going to end up in the poor house (whatever that is- just something my mom used to say)?"

Dave was silent for a moment and I thought he was just really thinking it through and going to give me some great thought that would change us forever.  His response... "easy come, easy go!"

I died.  It was just what I needed to hear.  I really couldn't have handled any more guilt than I was already giving myself and he probably knew that.  I stress and stress about everything and he always makes me realize that everything is ok!  And he makes me laugh too.

He has never once, ever, gotten angry or upset about any money I've spent.  He trusts me that I'm making the best decisions and sometimes we all make mistakes too.  And he knows that any mistake I make I'm going to beat myself up about enough that he doesn't need to too.  Love him.

2.  Sometimes I get mad at him and "fly of the handle" (not really but you know).  I can say or do stupid things when I'm a little mad.  And I can totally be ridiculous and then feel like a fool afterward!  And you know what his response is when I apologize?  He pretends it didn't happen.

Example:
Me:  "Dave I'm so sorry I was grumpy and mean and got so mad over the dumbest little thing."
Dave:  "What?  what are you talking about? I don't remember you doing that.  What?  I'm so confused right now."
Then I laugh and we move on.  It is the best ever because sometimes you just need someone to forgive and forget you know!

Just now I was just standing in the kitchen making Logan's birthday cake and Dave is at Costco with the kids and I had these thoughts and wanted to come and write them down before I forget.  Love you Dave.

Thirteen Years

Thirteen years ago today I married this guy!  We have a good thing going.  I love him and love to be with him.  In fact, I know it's ridiculous but I have separation anxiety when we're not together.  Everything just feels right when he's around.  I'm glad for that.  This picture is all I could find right now but it is so not him (though it does show his handsome-ness).  He's almost always smiling and happy.  I love his smile.

Too bad the first two restaurants we tried to go tonight to celebrate were closed!  Oh well, we still had a fun night, got some mexican food, and reminisced a little bit.

Happy Anniversary to my favorite!  The best daddy and the best husband.  I am lucky.

La Jolla Adventure

This last week Dave and I went on a small get-away to San Diego to celebrate tax season being over and to rebuild our marriage (only kind of kidding).  We had a nice time and it was good to get away (but not from Mack I missed him so much and it was way too long to leave my one year old).

When we first arrived, the hotel that I had chosen online was a total dump and the type of place you would wake up to see a homeless man sitting on your balcony.  Who cares if it was right on the water it was sick and nasty!  So we checked in, and five minutes later checked out.  Luckily we found a better spot easily (I'm sure because it was a Monday night).

Tuesday we took a very, very long morning walk after breakfast.  I may be a little weird but it was the one thing I wanted to do- go on a long walk along the coast.  It was beautiful and there was even a seal pup birthing spot.  We didn't see any seals being birthed but I could watch seals all day- bouncing in and out of the water, fighting, barking, and the babies being cute.

Moving on.

We ate at some good spots, we went to the San Diego temple (I had never done a session there, just been to sealing.  It was gorgeous inside- wow!!), rented bikes and explored Coronado, got a couples massage (it was heavenly until the next day when my whole body was a limp noodle), went to a movie, sat on the beach (would have done that more but the weather wasn't totally beach worthy), and did some shopping (I finally got a blazer- something I've been looking for for awhile yay!)

We also sat in the hotel jacuzzi but there were floating bugs so I had to get out.

Some things we did not do:
*sleep in (we have reached that age I guess... I just couldn't sleep past 7:30!)
*pork out (I was determined not to make this oinkfest 2012 and it wasn't... but not because I have amazing self control, it's because I was a little sick to my stomach the whole time)!
*bring my big camera.  For the first time since I got it I did not bring it on vacation.  I figured I didn't need a bunch of pictures of Dave and I, and I wanted to be free of bags or anything heavy- it was nice.

Now for a few photos.  This may be the choppiest blog post ever but I can't think straight most of the time these days so this is all you get.

loved walking on the coast

SD Temple!

Breakfast at the Coffee Cup (divine.  thanks Stacy W)

Dave was excited about the rental car we got

biking Coronado

Meeting Angela from The Office!!

Together alone for an extended period of time- very strange, we had to get used to it

adorable seals

walking=love

Yes, we met Angela from The Office.  Dave and I NEVER meet celebs, and we're not really even into celebs so to see someone walking down the sidewalk in front of us from a tv show that we actually watch, was so fun.  I pointed it out and Dave was brave and said something.  She was very nice and told us she usually just blends in!  She is super tiny and mini-sized in real life.  Afterward Dave and I laughed our heads off at how "star struck" we were!??!  I was tongue tied basically the whole time and Dave said the stupidest stuff like "do you live here?" (at the hotel in Coronado lol!) and, "so where do you film the show?" LOL! Angela was like "um.. LA" and probably in her head "duh."  Also, after we met her Dave sent out the cheesiest tweet to her I almost died.

Now I need to write about some traveling issues I had that have discouraged me from going anywhere for awhile.  I love to travel, I love taking my family on trips and exploring new places.  However, in the last year or so I have become EXTREMELY motion sick.  It is awful!  Almost the entire time from the second the plane took off until it landed back in Oakland I was a little sick to my stomach.  Anytime we drove anywhere I got a headache and was nauseous.  It totally made me not want to do anything and it made me sad!  Is this my life from here on out?  Is it a symptom of age that is going to stop me from living life to the fullest?

On top of that and probably partly because of it, I wasn't able to eat as much as we wanted to.  I was excited to try some new places and lay in bed at night eating everything I try to hide from my kids.  But my belly was FULL the entire time and I hardly ate anything... I felt sick from eating the smallest amount and we even skipped a few meals because of it- how sad is that?  I'm just hoping it was related to the motion sickness thing and that I can fix both problems before I travel again.

Lastly I have come to realize that I may be a teeny bit of a wuss.  Sleeping outside of my own bed doesn't happen easily (I was up all the night the first night), my back hurts when I sit for too long (on the plane, in the rental car), and that massage I got?  Totally wiped me out the next day- I was a zombie walking around with no energy to lift a limb... I couldn't even try on clothes when we went shopping.  What is wrong with me?!

So, those are my problems and I need to figure them out before we travel again.  They didn't ruin the trip, we still had a great time, but they did put a damper on things for me and I just hope Dave isn't thinking "I married a huge baby."

Now to end with my highlights (the whole trip was a highlight but you know):
*the temple
*seeing "Salmon Fishing in Yemen" - I liked it
*playing a get to know you game with Dave one night which was so funny and good
*getting a Sprinkles cupcake (ok 4)
*looking into Dave's beautiful green eyes without any children interrupting us
*hearing from my sis (who watched our kids!!) that Mack was saying "mama mama" all night after we left
*breakfast at the Coffee Cup
*biking Coronado (I love biking!)

The End.
ps thank you Kaley!!  My sister leaves on her mission in a week and I'm so thankful she could bond with our kids for a few days and give us some much needed time off.  I'm going to miss her.

To Dave on your 35th

Dear Dave,

I'm so glad you were born 35 (WOAH- when did we get so old? ...Well, I'm actually not quite there yet) years ago. I don't really know where I'd be or who I'd be with if you weren't here. And I'm sure I wouldn't be as happy as I am with you (who else could get along with me?).

You are the best husband and daddy in the whole wide world. I'm thankful everyday that I get to wake up and do life with you by my side... whether it's taking deep breaths while Macey bounces off the walls, helping Lexi with fractions, searching through Logan's room and backpack for his latest missing item, or smooching and gushing over Macky... there's no one else I'd rather tackle it all with.

And someday we'll be laying on the beach together, drinking lemonade and ordering giant amounts of food, reminiscing about the wild days as parents of four. We'll laugh about how we played murder in the dark and scared our kids. We'll shake our heads over how much piano lesson money we spent. We'll probably regret being too wimpy to run in the cold mornings, and die over how much time we spent cleaning this dang house. I hope we'll remember our family bike rides and how even when everyone is arguing and fighting, just getting out and doing something together made it all better. I hope we'll remember that even though we were exhausted at the end of every single day we were happy because we were in it together.

You are my most favorite person and I love to be with you. Yes, you drive me crazy sometimes and I wish I could just keep my mouth shut about it, but I LOVE YOU! Please ignore my grumblings and ramblings and just remember that fact ok? You're the greatest and I hope you have a very happy birthday.

XOX,
D

Dave is an Old Man

Happy Birthday to my BFF Dave. He is 34 and that is basically pushing 40 in my mind.

Today he told me that last year on his 33rd birthday he predicted that it was going to be a great year for him, and he was right.

Now he is claiming that 34 is going to be just as good. I love his positive outlook.

I also love him because:

he makes me laugh
he builds me shelves
he helps me make shades for the boys room
he stops at the grocery store for me
he checks the kids math homework
he pets Buster when Buster is lonely
he drives to work every morning and brings home the bacon for us
he just made me a crystal light
he plays with my hair when I need him to
he watches dvr'd Oprah episodes with me
he listens to me
he surprises me
he puts our family at the top of his list
he helps me to be more spontaneous
he sets a good example for me
he is friendly and nice to everyone
he fights with me in the car over our very different driving techniques
he plays chess with logan
he helps me justify purchases that he knows I really want
he can't wait for our baby
he slept on the couch the other night because he was worried his cough was keeping me up
he searches for missing items in the garage that I need
he forgives
he gets up early
he sings and dances for us
he does good photobombs
he loves every meal or snack that I ever make him
he tells me I'm pretty when I'm not
he is fun
he is my favorite person to be with in the whole wide world.

I hope he has the best birthday tomorrow because he deserves it.
Love you Dave- xoxoxo!

How Dave Really Feels About Doing Family Pictures....

Am I mean to post this picture? I know Dave won't care. He is not self-concious in any way shape or form. And I know he thinks it's funny too. We have the same sense of humor (most of the time).

But here's a handsome one to make up for it:

hot stuff.

11 Years and Counting...

(this year)

Yesterday Dave and I celebrated our 11 year anniversary.
We realized we've been through some stuff together:

College
8 moves
5 job changes
3 babies born
3 miscarriages
2 major child injuries
tons of minor child injuries
countless big decisions
adoption approval paperwork/process
foster care licensing
2 foster babies
having 5 kids for awhile
2 foster babies leaving
infertility treatments
divorces
deaths
work issues
8 cars
1 major car crash
1 pet
(hopefully soon, one pet death... just kidding kids)

And that is just the stuff that I'm allowed to talk about.

Isn't that how it is with everyone? Life throws a lot of junk at you and the hardest stuff is the stuff you have to do alone. That's why it is nice when you have someone by your side who knows everything and together you can work through it.
Dave and I do not have a perfect marriage or a perfect life. But we love each other and as long as neither one of us gives up I think we'll make it! The good usually outweighs the bad and at the end of the day I am very thankful for Dave and that he treats me with kindness and cares about our family. I am thankful he is my partner through it all. I love spending time with him and my kids and they are the most important people in my life.

We took a lot of pictures on our recent trip to Cabo. Thanks to my sis Julie for figuring out my camera and taking them for us.

It's Over and We Survived (barely)

Welcome home to Dave after another long and grueling tax season!

Can't wait to have a normal family life again!

We are going on two trips to celebrate. One as a family and one for just me and Dave (and my brother and his wife too!) YAY!

True Story

One night Dave went to get me some groceries and on his way out of the store he stopped at the red box. He thought it would be fun to rent Wall-e. Yeah, Dave and I, we don't have the same taste in movies. Well, really, I only watch movies that look good or interesting- I won't just watch any movie just to watch it. He will. Anyway, he rented Wall-e for himself. The kids were already in bed. A red box movie cost $1.

He came home that night and we ended up doing other things and he didn't watch the movie. A few nights later he found it and watched it, then decided to show the kids the next night. They watched it and somehow it got set aside. Then we found it again a few days later... Dave meant to return it, but it sat in his car for awhile.

By the time Wall-e got returned to the red box we had been charged $13. Yes, you read that right, $13 for WALL-E!

Now I like to tease/annoy him by saying, "remember that time you paid $13 to watch Wall-e?"

It's funny to me. Not so much to him.

Happy 33rd to Dave

Dave turned 33 today.  I wanted to make a "33 things I love about Dave" list but my brain seems to be missing.  I seriously can't remember or think on cue.  Thinking and remembering still happens for me, just not when I want or need it to.

We had a fun birthday weekend.  I definitely like to go "all out" for birthday because why not add some extra fun to life, right?  Especially right now when my life consists of poopy diapers, cortisone creams, and squished bananas all over the floor.

So Saturday night my parents and Kaley came over and watched all 5 children so we could go out.  We go out frequently but I hadn't left little AJ yet and this time I did.  I missed him.  But that is not what this post is about.

For our date we went to dinner at Fuzio's and then saw Avatar.  I liked it a lot.  I had not been interested in seeing it but since it was Dave's date he got to pick.  Anyway, it ended up being really good.

Then Sunday we celebrated with breakfast in bed, delicious dinner, presents and lots of dessert.

I am also an awesome wife because I got him a niiiiice TV.  We might be the last family on the planet to have a flat screen/HD/1080p/LCD whatever, but now we have one.  Dave was thrilled.  Thank heavens for my dad and some friends that helped me know how to pick the right one.  Too bad I threw my back out at Costco trying to load it in my trunk because I didn't want to wait for a slow poke worker to come do it for me.

One more thing. Dave and I sort of have an unspoken birthday rule.  When it is the other person's birthday the person whose birthday it is not has to do all of the work that day.  Like when it was Dave's birthday I couldn't ask him to change a poopy diaper, or get someone
dressed, or let him do dishes etc.  I mean you can ask but we sort of try to give that person a break the whole day.  Well, this birthday it was HARD.  I was dead tired at the end of the day and cursing the silent birthday rule a little bit.  I mean, Dave totally helped a lot still but even just trying to do it all and not ask for help was so hard.  I am still recovering from Sunday.  And I hate the unspoken birthday rule except on my birthday then I loooove it.

Anyway, I love Dave a lot and that is why I wanted to have a nice birthday weekend for him.

Now onto the list.

In no particular order.

Basically whatever comes to my mind is being typed so I can go to bed.

1.  Dave is funny.
2.  Dave is positive.
3.  Dave sometimes lives in an alternate reality where everything is happy and great and nothing bad is going on- sometimes I like that because it helps me, but sometimes I need him to suffer through real-life with me too.
4.  Dave gets excited over eating treats with me.
5.  Dave plays with the kids.
6.  He is good at teaching them and takes time with their questions and explains things to them in a way that they can understand and learn.   The kids worship him.
7.  Dave has a talent for making up baby talk words.
8.  Dave is good at keeping his side of the bathroom and closet clean.
9.  He is clean in everything he does.  That is why I have to do the dishes because it takes him 5 times longer then me because everything is scrubbed clean before it is placed in the dishwasher.
10.  When he does a job, he does it right and well.
11.  Dave thinks the best of people.
12.  He is kind.  To everyone.
13.  He works hard for our family.  Who wants to commute to work and sit behind a
desk all day everyday?  Not Dave.  Or me.  So I'm glad and thankful that he does it.
14.  Dave pretends to be frugal but really he doesn't mind spending money.
15.  He is awesome at building things and is building us a super great desk right now for our office.
16.  He is also super buff and amazing at moving furniture around.  He does not complain when he has to do this almost weekly because of my frequent home decorating crisis's.
17.  Dave falls asleep the second his head hits the pillow but tries as hard as he ca
n to stay awake and listen to my nightly monologue.
18.  Dave is obsessed with cars and it is all he thinks about and talks about when we drive.  I try to listen but it's hard.
19.  Dave has one tooth that tends to "catch" food and store it.  One time he came home from being at school all day and smiled at me.  That entire tooth was covered in a chili bean skin.  It was shocking and I died laughing.  He was super angry at all of his "supposed" friends who did not tell him about the chili tooth.
20.  He loves Egg nog.
21.  He also loves to brush his teeth.
22.  Dave wins all games he plays and competitions he is in.  It's kind of annoying.
23.  Dave is up for anything, anytime.
24.  His favorite show is Sports Center.
25.  Soda makes him extremely happy.
26.  He shaved his head this year on January 1, 2010 because his hair was bugging him.  I cried and we had a fight and didn't speak much for a couple of days.  It was a waste of a good weekend.  I'm finally over it (but still glad it's growing back).
27.  He can be impulsive (see #26).
28.  Dave likes old people and always goes out of his way to help them, smile at them, and talk to them.  I hope he'll like me when I'm old.
29.  He plays with my hair and gives me back rubs a lot.  Even when he is dead tired.
30.  He gets up in the night with the baby and forces me to go back to bed.  I try to fight him on that but most of the time I am weak.  He says he likes it but he has to be lying.  Who loves to not sleep in the night?
31.  He rarely complains.
32.  He can carve a mean jack-o-lantern (once won $100 for one), make awesome home made cards, and sew clothes.  He is more crafty than I am.
33.  He is my favorite person to be with.  We argue more as we're getting older but end up laughing about how lame our arguments are.  He is fun to be with and I'm so glad he still wants to be with me.

Happy Birthday Dave.  I love you!

Friday, May 29, 2009

I couldn't resist buying them matching jammies. I am only in this picture becuase CC would not sit alone. Also, if my eyes look tired, it's because they are.

Yesterday was me and Dave's 10 year anniversary. I love him for a lot of reasons, but the two main one's at this moment are:

1. He bought me an I-phone. It is my new best friend. It slept on my nightstand last night.

2. He supports me in everything- even things that we might, at first, think are a little crazy. Like foster care. It's been a wild week. Yesterday morning I was trying to get the kids ready and off to school, CC was having a difficult morning (aka crying a lot) and Dave was heading out the door for work. He could have looked around and said, "what have you gotten us into to???" or "this is insane- that baby is never going to stop crying and we're going to go crazy!!!" or "I'm outta here!' (thoughts that I might have been having (o:)

Instead he kissed me goodbye and said, good luck. And he said something like, "well- 10 years later and here we are!!" It was funny. Then I found a nice, encouraging note later on my keyboard. Oh, and the Iphone was secretly plugged in where my old cell was! He is my favorite person in the world and I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and kind person to marry.

Happy 10 years to us! My mother in law was here for the night and we sneaked off to a little dinner.

Baby update: CC is still sleeping through the night, still wanting me to hold her all of the time (I'm a little exhausted), still feeling sad around strangers, and still having very rough mornings. But she is also playing on her own more, eating solids better, crawling around for a few minutes at a time, playing with toys in her high chair, feeding herself puffs, and smiling and laughing a lot- especially when we go shopping. She loves the kids and lets Lexi hold and feed her so I get a little break and that is nice!
