An Interview with a Giants Fan

(intently watching a post game interview/show of some sort)

As you probably know the bay area has Giants fever right now. We are Giants fans (well, Dave is for sure, he converted our children, and I just go along with whatever because I don't necessarily follow baseball or any professional sports. Sorry).

The Giants are in the World Series and this is very exciting for everyone (except me, but I'm going along with it). For some strange reason Dave has decided that the Giants are continuing to win because of his new beard, which he calls a rally beard, and refuses to shave until this whole thing is over.

I am confused (but going along with it to be supportive).

Let's see if we can get some quetsions answered:

Thank you Dave, for being with us tonight.
It's great to be here.

First, what is a rally beard?
A rally beard is a beard that you start growing when you realize that your previous shaving jinxed the giants in game 5 of the NLCS and you don't want to jinx them again by shaving it, so you keep growing it.

Why do you have one?
I have one because it is my way of participating in the fun of the Giants being in the world series.

How is that fun?
I have an excuse to grow my beard for 2 weeks.

What, do you believe, will happen if you shave it?
The Giants will lose.

Why are you doing this to me?
To you?

When is the last game?
I'm not going to shave until the Giants win a World Series so it might not be until next November. Ok, really it is next Thursday.

At what time on that day will you shave your beard?
The next morning. Maybe. I might want to relish in the glory of the rally beard for a few days.

Do you wish you played for the Giants?
Yes.

Which player would you be and why?
I would be Juan Uribe because I once met his cousin Jose, of former Giants lore, in the Dominican Republic on my mission. Lot of happy.

What is your prediction for the next 6 games?
There will only be 3 more games, max. Giants in 5.

Will you still be able to help me around the house and participate in meaningful conversation during the games?
No.

Why do you like watching sports on tv? (just trying to gain some understanding here)
Because I don't have to engage in meaningful conversation or help around the house.

Jerk.

Wouldn't you rather read blogs and bake cookies like me?
If I could read blogs and bake cookies with Juan Uribe, then yes. A lot of happy.

The End.

I am an amazing interviewer, I know.

But I'm pretty sure I'm more confused now then when I started.

Thank you for tuning in.

Ok, that was really funny. It sounded just like Dave. He told me about his rally beard last night and I didn't get it so I'm glad you explained.

He looks a little like Nacho.

FEAR THE BEARD!
My son has already told me this is the slogan he would like on his license plate when he gets a car. Um, he's 12... has no drivers license, has no car and can't grow a beard yet.

I guess that just means he's a Giants fan

This was a brilliant interview! A rally beard is sacred and you were able to capture the essence of a true sports fan. I have a new respect for Dave, even though I hate the Giants!
Enjoy the series.

Ok Denae. You've truly out done yourself in the Posting Hilarious Stuff category.

(I don't care about the world series but I'm now rooting for the Giants because of Dave and his beard).

Denae, you are seriously the cutest girl I, "know". I loved the interview. I totally laughed when I read, "Why are you doing this to me?"

I am now voting for the Giants...because of Dave and because of Jenibelle ☺. I always root for my blog friends' teams. I am also an Oregon Duck in my heart because of Ilene...unless the Ducks play my team, the Virginia Tech Hokies.

I also laughed at how Dave just busted out with the, "Because I don't have to engage in the meaninggul conversation or help around the house" when asked why he liked watching sports on tv. He may have a beard but at least he's honest.

I don't get it and it's driving me crazy because Trent is usually an Angles fan and doesn't really watch baseball. But for some reason this year he decided he need to have a team to support from the bay area since all his teams are either from LA area, Angles and Lakers or CO Bronocs.

I believe in anything that helps them win this series. Beard? Yes, don't shower often, you go. Banning certain people from our house because they were here when the Giants lost Game 2? You bet! We are superstitious lot, but whatever we are doing, it is helping us win! You should see our shrine on my FB page! Hmmm, maybe I need to put Dave in there with his beard!

Am I the only one who knows why "lot of happy" is so significant?

We just won.

Thank you Dave.
