Pillow Pickiness

I am very picky about pillows. It has to be "just right." Not too hard, not too soft, not too flat and NEVER lumpy.

Yesterday my kids decided to play a little game called, "get all of the pillows in the house and take off all of the pillowcases and slide down the stairs with them and then leave them everywhere."

Which was sort of o.k. with me until I went to bed last night and realized my personal pillow had been involved in the game. NOT O.K.!

I guess at bedtime Dave had made them collect all of the pillows, put the cases back on, distribute them to all of the beds, and then go to sleep.

Well, somehow my pillow must have been distributed incorrectly because the very second I laid my head upon it, I knew it wasn't the right pillow.

It was late so I thought, "oh well, one night with a weird pillow can't hurt." 5 minutes later I decided, "yes it can hurt! I can't sleep!! I've got to find my pillow!!" So I made Dave trade with me. NOT IT! Much too LUMPY!

I then checked the linen closet and grabbed the one that felt right. NOT IT! TOO RIDICULOUSLY FLAT! WHO COULD SLEEP ON A PANCAKE??

Next one from the linen closet.... NOT IT AGAIN! SMELLY, AND MORE LUMPS!
At this point I'm exhausted and annoyed.

I sneak in and slide the pancake pillow before mentioned under Lexi's head and steal the one she's sleeping upon. I get under my covers and place the pillow under my weary head. WRONG PILLOW AGAIN! MUCH TOO ENORMOUSLY FLUFFY! NECK CRINK GUARANTEED THE NEXT MORNING IF I USE THIS ONE!

Then I started whining and crying a little bit about the blasted kids who confused the pillow situation. I'm just too tired to get out of bed again!!!

Moaning, struggling, tossing and turning finally got Dave up and he went and stole Macey's for me to try out. Would it be my luck to have found my perfect pillow by this time? ABSOLUTELY NOT! FLATTER THAN A PANCAKE THIS TIME!!!!!!! IF YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT!!????!!!!!!!!!!!!???

And lastly Dave steals Logan's ..... and much to my joy and comfort it is the right pillow.

The very second I placed it "just so" under my neck and slightly twisted upward in the back, I KNEW. THIS WAS MY BELOVED PILLOW AND THANK THE HEAVENS ABOVE I HAD FOUND IT AT LAST.

Dave thinks I'm crazy. Do you?

NO!! You are NOT crazy. Maybe it runs in our family, but I still am searching for that perfect pillow. I know it's out there, I just haven't found it yet. I had to laugh at the "pancake pillow" because we have one of those and every once in a whuile Pete will TRY to trick me with it, but a "pancake" is not to be tricked with I mean it's almost like just laying on the sheet alone. Anyway, I am glad you found your pillow and that you didn't hurt your neck. By the way...what kind of pillow do you have?

Ang, I just checked the tag. It is a Seally Posturepedic and the tag says Quallo Supreme. Whatever that means. I don't remember where I got it. I am not normally into sharing pillows, but for you, I will share. Next time we visit or you visit, you can try it for one night and then you will know if it is your perfect pillow and if it is, you can get one!!

My pillows have their own names. You are not crazy. Someday when I go on a mission with my husband if I decide to do that, there will be one whole suitcase with my pillow collection. And he knows it.

Tyler is like that about pillows. EVERY night we go through a ritual where he accuses me of stealing his pillow, then he beats both of them until he decides which one is his. I couldn't care less.

This is completely understandable. Jeff and I have one pillow we have loved for 13 years together and we fight over it every night. It's so perfect that we cannot find a duplicate. I let him have it and then immediately steal it when he goes to sleep.

Very normal behavior with the pillow. It has to be perfect for optimal sleep.

While I do not share your pillow issues, I have many similar ones that could appear equally ridiculous...like the fact that the only way to toast an English muffin is under a broiler...and on the sleep note, I have to have it cool enough to sleep under my sheet, blanket, quilt and comforter all year round. I just can't stand not having all of that weight on me.

Glad you found your pillow.

Danae,
Just stumbled upon your blog while reading through Nie's comments! How fun to see your sweet family. Our BYU married ward seems like such a life-time ago, doesn't it? Fun times.
Take Care!

I had the same pillow for years....YEARS! About a year ago it started to morph. I don't know what happened but all of a sudden it just wasn't "right" anymore. I searched and searched and searched for the perfect pillow. After practically having to take out a second mortgage to fund my pursuit I found IT! I found it at a hotel. I slept like a baby and very early the next morning asked the front desk if I could buy the pillow. They let me and I am HAPPY!

I am very picky about my pillow. In fact I like to travel with it, because I sleep better with it. I have a down feather pillow and I love it!!! it's the perfect about of support, not lumpy, very comfy

You know you sound like Goldilocks, right?

I just noticed you have a new book listed on the side--The only place? Is it good? I need new books, because I'm almost done with my stack.

Very funny. I understand, but I am a flatter than a pancake gal.

Also, I need one on my head as well as a body pillow between my legs.

I'm with Rochelle. I like my pillows flat. And the pillowcase is just as important. It has to be the softest cotton and cold when I first lay my head down, even in the dead of winter!

I am jealous how many pillows you have in your house. Whenever visitors come I always have to sacrifice my pillow for them, and I use my nasty back-up pillows. It's just horrible, and I don't enjoy their stay!

You are not crazy, I cannot sleep with just any pillow either. But what a sweet husband to go and help you find your "special" pillow, even though he thinks your crazy.

You are definetly NOT crazy Denae! I too, have a special pillow that I sleep with and I love it! It is not too flat and not too puffy or lumpy. Jared sleeps with 2 pillows!!! Can you say major crink in your neck the next morning!!! I don't know how he does it. I am glad that Dave was able to find your missing special pillow!

Sorry sis...you're crazy. I really don't care about my pillow as long as I have one. I slept on scrunched up blankets and sweatshirts for two years...remember?

Les! Huge crink for Jared! He must have a strong neck. Dev, you've humbled me. I had forgotten about your non-pillow sleeping. Now I remember. I know I am spoiled.

I absolutely agree, 100%. I actually get physically violent with Matt if he tries to switch pillows...a pillow fight per-say?! I really and truely have neck kinking problems and if I sleep on a bad pillow even one night, my neck is toast for about 3 days. So go on girl and try every pillow in the house until you get yours!! It is a necessity.- Stacy

No- Of course not! All of us women can be crazy at times! And the right pillow is key!

Personally, I want the snoogle...ever heard of it? Its a huge pregnancy body pillow that looked heavenly when I was looking at it at babysrus.

Yes - no need to explain. Pillows really need to be just so if we're to get any rest in order to be suitable mothers. Glad you found your pillow. And, my kids love to do games like that too. Makes me kinda crazy!
