Out with the Old....

Sometimes I can be impulsive.  And I love to get rid of things/organize/de-junk.  But when I get in an impulsive de-junking mood I often do things I regret.  Well,  this summer I got rid of our beloved family piano.
Logan needed some motivation to practice. And he kept blaming this one key that was sticking and not playing as well.  So, in an effort to get him motivated again I decided to get a new piano.  Our neighbors had mentioned that they wanted to get rid of theirs so I went to look at it.  I was rushed and took a quick photo.  In the photo the lighting must have been just right because as I looked at it over the next few days I started to actually think it was cute!  It was smaller and small is good.  Plus it was newer and probably worked better.  So I listed our piano on facebook and my old Bwood neighbor wanted to come pick it up!  Perfect!!

Except when I looked at our cute piano being loaded into the trailer and it hit me that all the kids had learned to play on it.  That it was one of our oldest pieces of furniture we'd had the longest.  That was a great decor peice!!!  And I started to freak out.  But a deal is a deal and our friends had rented a trailer and come all the way down for it.  I had to go through with it.  It was very sad.  Even more sad when we went across the street to get our "new" piano and saw how ugly it was.

It's an orange-y wood color and the keys are yellowish.  It's small and won't fit my Christmas Tree collection on top at Christmastime like our old one.  Plus there's just nothing special about it and instead of enhancing the living room it actually makes it worse.

So I cried for a few hours and then decided that I just had to move on.  Things are just things and don't matter.  I can paint our new piano and make it cuter.  And I have these pictures to remember our old one.  Everyone does stupid things sometimes but you can't wallow in it, you just need to look to the future!  Haha these are all the thoughts I was forcing into my brian at the time.  Now that it's been gone a few months I'm mostly over it.  I'll miss it at Christmas time and I'll always regret my decision but that's just life.

And that was a long post to tell a simple story.

So what color should I paint the new one?  Any suggestions?

Loser Mom of the Year

I feel like the worst mom in the world tonight.

Lexi has been preparing for her first ever piano recital. She has her song memorized and tonight we were all waiting around to go to her recital which started at 8pm. When we first were given the invitation by her teacher I did think it was strange that it started so late. The invitation had one time from last year crossed off (6:30) and another time (8:00) penciled in.

8pm is very late for our family. Our kids go to bed between7-7:30 so to keep everyone up and have them in church clothes at 8pm was very difficult. We were ready to go at 7:45 so we headed over, early, to get a good seat.

When we pulled up to the church we saw lots of families out eating cookies and drinking lemonade. One of the ladies standing there was Lexi's piano teacher... she was eating a cookie.

That's when I realized we had missed the recital!! I grabbed the invitation out of my purse and immediately realized I had misread it. It started at 6:30 and last year had been over at 8:30. This time she had crossed off the ending time of 8:30 and written 8:00. I realize I'm giving way too many details and you are probably confused. I'm still a little confused myself?!?

The bottom line is, we missed the recital. Showed up right when it ended. I am so embarrassed. I feel so bad for Lexi who was all dressed up, with her hair curled, and ready to play her memorized piece! She had even practiced her bow that was to happen at the end of her song.

It is such a disappointment to prepare for something only to miss it. So disappointing. So anti-climactic. So lame of a mother.

We came home and had a pretend recital in our family room. We all cheered wildly for Lexi after her song, but it didn't make us all feel any better.

I just don't feel like my same old self. I don't know what is wrong with me but the D-dawg a couple of years ago would have never made a mistake like this. I can't seem to remember things like I used to, and I don't pay attention to details as much as before (obviously).

Are things just going to get worse as I get older? What will it be next? Will I forget my child's birthday, or baptism day, or, heaven forbid, forget her name? Where has my mind gone and how can I get it back?

On Dr. Oz and Trying to be Healthy

Dr. Mehmet Oz

I'm kind of obsessed with the Dr. Oz feature on Oprah's shows.

First of all, and this has nothing to do with my post, but I wondered if anyone else noticed and was concerned with the fact that Dr. Oz is the "popular" one of the 2 authors? The books are actually written by Dr. Roizen AND Dr. Oz.

Dr. Roizen

But Dr. Oz is the one that gets to sit up on the stand by Oprah and do the demonstrations. Do you think Dr. Roizen feels bad? Or is there tension between them now because they wrote a book together but Dr. Oz is getting all of the attention?

Has Dr. Oz betrayed Dr. Roizen in hogging all of the fame? I'm just a little bit worried about their friendship. I think they should both be up on the stand.

Second of all, I want to be like Dr. Oz but it is too hard. He is just too healthy! He talked about drinking some vegetable drink every morning. His was green and it looked good. Oprah said it tasted "fresh."

So in my desire to be like Dr. Mehmet Oz, I accidentally bought a huge case of V8 at Costco the other day!

I do not like V8. Sometimes when I'm at Costco my thinking becomes skewed and I buy things that don't make sense.

Like the time I bought scotch tape in bulk. 20 boxes of tape! It seemed like a good idea at the time but when I brought it home, with the help of Dave, I came to realize that we don't use that much tape and therefore did not need a lifetime supply. That was like 6 years ago and we still have boxes left.

Back to Dr. Oz and V8.

So I bought a huge case imagining myself drinking it every morning to be like Dr. Oz. He said he blends an apple into his spinach drink to make it sweet. Great idea!

So I blended my V8 up with an apple while day-dreaming about my healthy arteries.

Well, I have to say that it was so gross.

I hate V8 plain, and I hate it with an apple.

And now we have a whole case in our garage that we won't drink. I guess it can count as "food storage"... maybe when we have a huge national disaster and we can't get to a store and we are almost dead from hunger, we'll drink that V8.

Why do so many of my Costco splurges end up being labled "food storage?"

Why is V8 so disgusting?
